George and Harold are two imaginative pranksters who make the depressing Jerome Horwitz School a better place. They hypnotize their nemesis, the mean-spirited principal Mr. Krupp. He transforms into the incredibly clueless yet kind-hearted and enthusiastic superhero named Captain Underpants. Even without the mean principal, they discover that having Captain Underpants comes at a steep price. Meanwhile, Professor Poopypants tries to eliminate laughter with the school snitch Melvin, and George and Harold discover that there may be more to Mr. Krupp than they had originally thought. 2 overly imaginative pranksters named George and Harold hypnotize their principal into thinking he's a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dimwitted superhero named Captain Underpants. George and Harold are best friends, inveterate prankster, and writer/artist of comic books featuring their personal super-hero, Captain Underpants. They are constantly in trouble with Mr Krupps, principal of their elementary school: he is a joyless soul and has decided to split them up in order to curtail their pranks. Accidental hypnosis means that Mr Krupps comes to believe he is Captain Underpants, just as the mysterious Professor P comes on the scene as the school's new science teacher.<br/><br/>This CGI film, based on a series of kids' books which I had never heard of, is very silly indeed, and it is aimed - totally accurately - at kids. Please don't anybody take exception to it for being loaded with lavatorial humour and slapstick, because the kids in the showing I went to loved it. If I (mild spoiler) comment that the plot climax hinges on the fact that small boys find the name of the planet "Uranus" hilarious, then you will have an idea of the level of humour here.<br/><br/>It is deliberately cruder in visual style than we are used to with CGI features: this is clearly a stylistic choice, and it suits the material, because this is very, very broad stuff. It is bright, colourful, wildly over the top, and with good voice work (Kevin Hart and Ed Helms were the only names I recognised). <br/><br/>This is an enjoyable film for kids and childish adults. Captain Underpants was a pleasant suprise of last year. This is a pretty funny movie which is why I'm rating it atleast a 6, but other than that there isn't much to this movie to see. It's intereting enough, and has good visuals but, it lacks plot, dialogue, and character development. Overall it is a decently fun movie. 6/10 Captain Underpants’ charm lies in its lighthearted and lightly scatological silliness, so it’s a shame that the movie sometimes overstuffs itself.
